This set of 100 Jesus Beads has its origins in the tradition of the Orthodox and Eastern Catholic Churches. The chotki has a traditional purpose as a silent "breath prayer," with the words "Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God" recited on inhalation and "have mercy on me, a sinner" on exhalation. This practice, known as the Jesus Prayer or the Prayer of the Heart, calls upon the Holy Name of Jesus and seeks his divine mercy.
